Resident Stories

Ralph Peabody – resident since 1991When we first considered the move, I was so thankful that we could make the decision together and hadn’t waited until one of us was alone. We had purchased a large motor home to travel after my retirement. The idea was great, but “house” obligations curtailed our expectations. We came to Sherwood Oaks at the ages of 62 and found FREEDOM!! Once we got here, we had time to travel, but also the opportunities here opened other avenues. We could pursue our musical interests which had been dormant since high school days. I had the fun of landscaping some area. Del took art classes. We both became very involved with the daily activity of the community. We found ENRICHMENT. Now, I am alone. No close family with whom to share life and decisions. Many residents help fill that gap. But what have I really found now? SECURITY. I don’t worry about someone putting me in a nursing home. If necessary I will be here with friends. I don’t even think about the possibility of experiencing financial problems as I am secure here. I care about my fellow residents, the staff, and my home, Sherwood Oaks. |

Jim and Marjorie Theys – residents since 2000It is very comforting to live here and know that you can see the management folks top to bottom without an appointment. Just tap on the door and enter to receive a “What can I do for you?” with a smile. A very, very important amenity for us is the health service. Several nurses are on beck and call to our homes quickly if we feel ill and call. Also they care for post hospital care on the doctor’s orders. There are three physicians to attend to us at the Center or for the skilled care unit and our assisted living. So very important, needed, and appreciated. I would not like to live anywhere but here at Sherwood Oaks. My life is all it should be and more. |

Ed and Jane Vidt – residents since 2007The enjoyment of our life is secured and enhanced by a sort of permanently anchored cruise ship, with a fine dining room, an excellent library, a gift shop, a warm and spacious swimming pool, places for enjoying hobbies, and much more. We are glad we are living in Sherwood Oaks! |

Ginnie & Dave Yundt – residents since 2007We did not realize when we moved here that we would be using the nursing facilities so soon due to Dave's illness, since we were both in good health when we moved. Having used these services, we have a very comfortable feeling about our future life at Sherwood Oaks. |

Charles and Jane May – residents since 2006Since we have been residents of Sherwood Oaks for several years, we realize there are many advantages we didn't anticipate. One is the help we have had from Special Services. When we needed transportation for medical appointments they assisted us. When a son needed to be at the airport, they took him at 5am. It gives us peace of mind to know the caring workers of Special Services are available for many other needs if necessary. |

Henry Herchenroether – resident since 2003I like the many and diverse opportunities to broaden and acquire new physical and mental skills as well as to maintain the interests developed over a lifetime. Most such opportunities are available through resident groups of similar interests with others such as physical fitness and swimming pool exercises and sports. |

Tom and Juanita Manley – residents since 2007The Sherwood Oaks continuing care concept is very important to us. It is a comfort to know that the assisted and skilled care facilities are in close proximity to our residence, which means that if one of us requires their use the other is still nearby and can easily visit. |
Gwen Hayeslip – resident since 2005I’ve stayed at three other retirement centers and none can compare to Sherwood oaks. I love it here. Just driving past the pond, watching the geese and enjoying the water fountain – a lovely sight before you enter the campus. |
